Mood: waiting for wind
18th May 2009
Windsurfing: Pevensey Bay
Wind Direction: S-SSW
Wind Stength: 15-20 knots ish
Surf / Sea State: choppy
Air Temperature: ok
Sea Temperature: ok
Weather: overcast and showers with wind
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Having had a text from 'Baydrew' suggesting wind at Pevensey to suit 5.7m and completed the pre-requisite DIY tasks the urge to go windsurfing increased as the trees blew more .... a few texts to confirm wind at the beach was still happening and to encourage 'gutted' to improve on yesterdays 50/50 session and escape was complete.

PaulP texted me to say it'd dropped and I should stay home, but too late, I was already out the door and wasn't about to return to base.

Got to the beach and 'Baydrew' & 'VFW Mark' were taking a breather with 6.5m & 105's the order of the day.

Simple choice for yours truly, 5.8m SF & 10'5.

Rigged and readied, time to meet the shorebreak. Surprise obstacles to dodge on way out in shape of couple kids in boardies taking a swim in the shore dump .... nutters, it's not summer yet, and I'd just opted for my 5mm suit as thought it a bit chillier than yesterday where 3mm short arm was fine.

Picked my gap and went for it, and as I went out the wind increased a bit too. It also swund from quite onshore to cross-on and back again and then started to rain, along with a further increase in wind strength.

Waves werent as nice as yesterdays sweet spot, but there was still a bit of swell about to play with. Picked some jump ramps out but again focus was more on dropping in and cutting back on sections of wave, and tacking as often as possible for practice.

Came in for a breather as 'Gutted' rocked up and gave him the thumbs up, so he rigged his 5.7m and 100ltr FSW and joined the action. Nice to see a big Pevensey bay smile on his boat race after recent spoilt public schoolboy outbursts of it all not being fair etc etc ... ;-)

Myself and 'Gutted' enjoyed a decent hour of blasting bumping jumping gybing & tacking in the choppy high tide conditions, and the sun even came out for a bit, before the wind eased ... classic 'Gutted' took one last run and bogged all the way back cursing his over enthusiasm, but despite that, big smiles all round, and packed up and home in perfect timing for tea.

Happy daze
